TROUBLESHOOT GUIDE

Split Screen Cheat Sheet

During the workshop, you should be able to:

  • Watch the Zoom demo on one side of your screen
  • Work on your LinkedIn page/profile on the other side, at the same time

This is how you get the most value from the session.

Recommended Setup (Best Experience)

Before the workshop starts:

  • Use a laptop or desktop (not a phone or tablet)
  • Open Zoom via the Zoom app, not your internet browser
  • Make sure Zoom is updated to the latest version
  • Log into LinkedIn in advance

How to Split Your Screen

On a Mac

  1. Open Zoom and your internet browser (LinkedIn)
  2. Hover over the green button in the top-left corner of a window
  3. Select Tile Window to Left of Screen or Right of Screen
  4. Choose the second window to fill the other side

Tip: You can resize the split by dragging the centre divider.

On Windows (PC)

  1. Open Zoom and your internet browser (LinkedIn)
  2. Click the Zoom window
  3. Press Windows key + Left arrow or Windows key + Right arrow
  4. Select LinkedIn to fill the other half of the screen

Zoom Settings to Check (Very Important)

Once you’re in Zoom:

  • Make sure you are in Speaker View or Standard View
  • Avoid “Full Screen” if it hides your browser
  • If needed, exit full screen using Esc

Quick Troubleshooting

Run through these if something feels off.

“I can only see Brent, not the screen he’s sharing”

This is the most common issue.

Try this:

  • Look for a “View Options” or “View” button at the top of Zoom
  • Select Standard or Side-by-Side View
  • If you’re in full screen, press Esc

Also check:

  • You haven’t accidentally clicked Hide Shared Content
  • Your Zoom window isn’t minimised behind another app

“When screen share starts, everything goes full screen”

Try this:

  • Press Esc to exit full screen
  • Resize the Zoom window manually
  • Re-split your screen using the steps above

Zoom often defaults to full screen when someone starts sharing.

“My split screen worked, then broke when screen sharing started”

This is normal Zoom behaviour.

Fix:

  • Reapply split screen after screen sharing begins
  • Zoom treats screen sharing like a new window

Pro tip: Wait until Brent starts sharing, then split your screen.

“I’m using Zoom in my browser and it feels weird”

Short answer: yes, it is.

Best fix:

  • Leave the meeting
  • Rejoin using the Zoom desktop app

Browser Zoom is more limited and causes most layout issues.

“I’m feeling behind already”

Take a breath. You’re not.

What to do:

  • Focus on getting Zoom and LinkedIn visible
  • Follow along, even if you’re a step or two behind
  • You can always refine after the session

This workshop is designed to be practical, not perfect.

Final Reassurance (This Matters)

If your setup feels clunky for the first 5–10 minutes, that’s normal. Once your screen is sorted, everything clicks into place and the workshop flows properly.

We’ll guide you. You won’t be left stranded. And you’ll get far more value once you can see and do at the same time.
